"I had a very dear friend of mine, who lives in Seattle. He had a brain tumor and I went up to Seattle in 2014/2015 for several weeks to help him out after his surgery. There wasn't much I could do, as quiet was necessary. I started doodling, drawing upon my decades of studying the decorative arts. After hundreds of doodles and sketches, I realized I had stumbled upon a new visual vocabulary in which I now base my sculpted paintings."
